About Today (Live)
The National
Shot by Vincent MoonThis was in my drafts, tucked in this corner for maybe close to a year. And it’s funny how it’s still painful, even when I’m (extremely) happy. It’s not a twinge in response to a specific thing, but kind of a soundtrack to a loneliness and hopelessness, and the helplessness that comes with it.
Funnily enough, it’s (sounds like) a song for his now-wife, Carin. I’m glad it looks like it worked out.
This would have been a heartbreakingly appropriate song for those days in 2011.
Tonight you just close your eyes
and I just watch you
slip away

This song was my introduction to The National and it is still my favorite to this day. (But then there’s also Slow Show and Fake Empire.)
